 Is Spy x family overrated? And Why/why not? Review.

So you finished watching Spy x family or are you now planning to watch watch? Either way this blog is going to be useful for you cause today we will review this Spy x family anime and will find out the answer if this anime is overrated and why? 

Spy x family is a slice of life, comedy anime co-produced by Wit studio and cloverworks studio. Its manga series was Started in 2019 and in April 2022 it got anime adaptation. Spy x family is the most popular anime of 2022 and after a successful first season, second season will drop soon. Season 1 of the anime has 12 episodes and season 2 is expected to have 13 episodes. The series was a big talk even before its release and just after its release, series gets a lot of love from its fans. 

Why Spy x family is called Overrated? 

There was lot of hype for the anime even before its release which even excites me but as I am not a manga reader I thought that it will be a mystery thriller but after finishing first episode I understand what's it's selling point is and that is Anya of course. Anime is rated 9/10 in both IMDB and My Anime List which is a lot for an anime. Anime is no doubt amazing but not best. 

Spy x family Plot/Story

The series focuses in an elite spy, codename Twilight who disguise as Loid forger to carry out operation Strix. In order to complete this mission, he need to have a child and a wife. Therefore he adopted a girl child named Anya who is a psychic and can read people's mind and agreed to live with a single woman named Yor who is also a secret assassin. Now Twilight must take necessary steps to complete his mission and bring peace to his nation. 

Honestly I really liked its plot and I gave it a 8 out of 10 because despite having an amazing plot, the anime still has many plot holes.

Plot:- 8/10 

Animation 

Spy x family is co-produced by Wit studio and cloverworks and both are amazing studios so their is no need to worry about its animation. Action scenes are beautifully created and that vollyball match was just fantastic. Character's animations also amazing and the work they did in Anya's expression is worth appreciating. I am going to give it a perfect score cause there isn't any point to deduct on its animation.

Animation:- 10/10

Music and soundtracks 

Anime has nice soundtracks exectly what is needed and overall music production is good but Opening and Ending songs are just decent. They are good but not worth putting on your playlist. Also the visuals and animations on them are very simple. I will give its music a 7 out of 10. 

Music:- 7/10

Characters 

Anime has 3 major characters and 4-5 minor Characters. The major characters of anime are well created and all of them are entertaining. Although series lacks good side characters but main characters makeup for them so overall anime has strong cast. I will give it a 9, one point is deducted due to weak side characters.

Characters:- 9/10 

Best things about Spy x family- 

Spy x family has done amazing work in almost every aspect so it is going to be easy to list it down. 

1. Unique storyline:- Unlike other slice of life animes, Spy x family has done marvelous work on its storyline as well as storytelling. 
2. Good pacing:- Anime is very consistent with its pacing. You won't feel bored at anytime point of time while watching. 
3. Good animation:- As I already said, anime has very good animation. From action scenes to gag comedy scenes, every thing is well polished. 
4. Anya:- This point is dedicated to Anya that's it. 

What Spy x family did wrong?

Most things about this anime is positive and you won't find any bad points if you don't want find one, but if you want to, then you can like I did for example-

1. Plot holes:- If you will just think for few moments about this anime's plot then you will find lot of plot holes. Although it doesn't impact your viewing experience but still, a plot hole is a plot hole. 
2. Show off:- The series shows off a lot about Anya. Anya is a cute character no doubt about it but still making it a only selling point is kinda wrong. 
3. Weak side characters:- Apart from main characters, rest of characters are not impactful.

Is Spy x family Overrated?  

Let's go for our final answer but before that lets take a look at scores that I given earlier. 

Plot/story - 8

Animation - 10 

Characters - 9 

Music/Soundtracks - 7

So those are the scores I have given to the series so, for the final answer I will find it's average. So let's do it. 

Average = Sum of numbers/ total numbers

                = 8+10+9+7 / 4

                = 34/4 

                = 8.5 

So the total score is 8.5 and Spy x family is rated 9 in IMDB and MAL therefore, according to me Spy x family is overrated.
