Is Mob Psycho 100 worth watching? Review.

Season 3 of Mob Psycho 100 is officially announced and it is scheduled to release this October. Therefore it's the right time to binge watch it. If you still haven't seen the anime and are currently planning to watch it then you've landed in the correct place because with this short and through the point review you will be able to decide if the anime is worth your time or not. 

Mob Psycho 100 is one of those anime that has overpowered Main character. It was created by the same person who created One Punch Man. People often search which anime is better, Mob Psycho 100 or One Punch Man so the answer is Mob Psycho 100. Season 2 of One Punch Man was a disaster but season 2 of Mob Psycho 100 was fantastic.

Overview 

Mob Psycho 100 is an action, comedy, supernatural anime produced by studio Bones. It is adapted from a web manga created by author One, who is also known for creating One Punch Man. The anime got its first season in summer 2016 and till now has 2 seasons and 1 OVA. Season 3 of the series is scheduled to release in October 2022. 

Plot

Shigeo Kageyama 

The anime follows Shigeo Kageyama also known as Mob, a third year student at Salt middle school. Shigeo possesses psychic abilities but can't control it properly. To learn to control his powers and emotions, he works under Reigan Arataka who uses his powers to expel evil spirits. 

Characters 

Main character of the series is Mob or Shigeo Kageyama who is a great character. He is very relatable especially for introverts like me. He is weak physically and mentally both. Only ability he has is his psychic abilities. He admires his brother a lot and wants to become like him. Overall as a character, he is very good.

Ritsu and Reigan are two more important characters from the series. Ritsu is Shigeo's brother and he is just opposite of him. He is good in every field i.e. in sports, academics etc but lacks psychic abilities. He is jealous of Mob due to lack of psychic abilities. 

Finally let's talk about Reigan Arataka. He is my personal favourite character. He is a thug who calls himself a psychic but in reality he doesn't have any such abilities. He is Mob's master and Mob admires him a lot. He is a very good talker and he could handle any situation just by words. His personality is very powerful and he is one of the coolest characters in anime. 

Rest of the characters of the series aren't that important but they are good too. So overall the series has a very good cast.

Animation 

Animation in the series is without a doubt really good. Animation in the series is done by Studio Bones so you don't need to worry about it. 

Fight scenes are one of the strong points of the series. Fights are animated beautifully in an unique way. 

Overall quality of the animation is really good with its unique and funny character designs, it looks amazing.

Music 

Most things about the anime are good and the music used in the series is also decent. Anime has 2 opening and ending songs. First opening song is decent while opening 2 is fire. And ending 2 is decent and ending 1 is great. 

OST used in the series are decent as they didn't stand out but also aren't lacking. Overall, they did decent work in music.

Pacing 

Mob Psycho 100 has 2 seasons and total of 24 episodes so like most other 24 episodes anime, it also has good pacing. In season 1 first 6-7 episodes are kinda introductions and then the remaining episodes are like a mini arc which ends with introducing new villains. In the second season, again some random episodes started while ignoring the things that happened in the previous season. And the anime after 6-7 episodes starts continuing its previous events. In short both seasons have two halfs, first half shows characters while the second half shows the action and story. This way of showing things wasn't bad but in season 2 it was a little hard to wait for the actual action so, the series will lose some points. 

Pacing:- 7

Best things about the series 

There are so many great things about this anime. The series has done good jobs in my field. Here are some great things about the series:- 

• Unique and relatable main character
• Good side characters
• Visually stunning fight scenes
• Good storyline
• Great balance of action, comedy and other emotions.

Worst things about the series 

Like every other anime, this anime also has few flaws. The anime doesn't have any major problem but there are few minor ones like- 

• The anime lacks empowering female characters.
• Starting few episodes of season 2 are slow and a little disappointing. 
• The storyline with Claw (a villainous group) deserved more screen time.

Final thoughts 

Now it's time for a conclusion. Is this anime worth watching? Simple answer, yes it is a good anime for action lovers. This is not the best in the world but definitely entertaining. Apart from action, the series also has psychological aspects. So do give it a try.
