Who is the best shounen MC? Rating 10 random Shonen MCs.

Main characters play a major role in making an anime famous. Like every strong group needs a strong leader, similarly every great anime needs a great main character. 

Main characters are of different types so in this article we will list them all and give them a rating or grade. The better a character is, the better his grades will be. So let's find out who is the best among all.

A - Great 

B - Good

Ichigo from Bleach 

Ichigo is one of the most popular anime characters. He is also the only Big 3 protagonist who is not typically. He is cool but when he says "Bankai" he becomes super cool. 

His power scaling is a down point for him because he defeated squad captains who possess fighting experience of over a hundred with just 10 days of training which doesn't make sense to me.

Naruto from Naruto 

Naruto is a well known name. Even those who haven't heard of anime know who Naruto is. His popularity defines his likeability but how good of MC is he?

If you ask me or watch it closely then you will find many flaws in his character. First of all, his power level. He is also very annoying whenever he uses his "Talk-no-jutsu". His character development is good so overall he is a decent character.

Goku from Dragon Ball 

Goku is one of the most influential anime characters of all time. His characteristics are what we nowadays call "typical shonen protagonists". 

He is a very simple character with pure goodness and strength. His character development throughout the series wasn't much noticeable but there aren't many flaws either. In Dragon Ball z Goku was peak. He was really very likable till DBZ but things are little different in Dragon Ball super. 

In Dragon Ball super, Goku takes everything very lightly and all he care is to fight which results in his downfall.

Edward from FMAB 

Edward is a Goat. He is the best example of how MC of a Shonen Anime should be like. From his back story to character motivation to character development, everything about him is perfect. 

His power level is also very balanced which doesn't overshadow other side characters. You just can't find any flaw in this series.

My Top 10 Favourite FMAB characters 

Gon from Hunter x Hunter

Hunter x hunter is an anime that has character development as its strongest point. Gon is a great MC too. Although he is also a typical shounen protagonist but with better character development and power scaling. 

Gon is just a 12 year old boy and the series keeps that fact in mind. No matter how much he trains, in the end he is just a kid and he can't defeat adults. Due to all these causes, we can say Gon is a great protagonist.

    Is Hunter x Hunter worth watching? 

Luffy from One piece

Luffy is another typical shounen protagonist but he is written better compared to many others. First of all, he is very funny and entertaining on screen. His plot armor is also better compared to many others. 

He has carried the franchise for over two decades. There are many great characters in the series but still if you ask any fan about their favourite character in the series then most people will say 'luffy'.

Ash from Pokemon 

Ash is the Main character of the anime of the biggest media franchise, Pokemon. We have seen Ash and his adventures with his companion Pikachu for over 2 decades. 

Through the time we have seen Ash in countless battles. He fought against many tough opponents over many tournaments but won only a few of them which proves how thin plot armor the series has which is a plus point. Overall, he is a typical shounen protagonist but due to the balance of power levels, he gets the boost in his grades.

Saitama from One Punch Man

One Punch Man is the shortest series from this list but in terms of popularity, Saitama beats many characters from this list. His back story is funny and the way he got his powers is even more funny but the funniest thing out of all is his character design. 

He doesn't have any character development throughout the series because he doesn't need them. He is very entertaining to watch and also the reason for the popularity of the series.

Shinra from Fire Force 

Fire Force is a good anime and Shinra as a protagonist is also very good. As a character he is very interesting and unliike most Shonen protagonists, Shinra isn't dumb, he is smart and possess great abilities. 

Despite having a good side cast, the series gave most of the screen time and spotlight to Shinra alone which kinda ruins him. Shinra is good but excess spotlight and his plot armor affects his likeability negatively.

Fire Force anime review.

Eren from Attack on Titan 

When Attack on Titan started, Eren was considered a typical shounen protagonist and most people even finds him annoying but after completion of season 3, everything changed. 

Eren has one of the best character development in not just anime but in the whole world of fiction. He lost all his emotions and for sake of freedom, he chose the path of Genocide. For me, he is a GOAT.
