Series Overview

Fire Force is an action, supernatural, shonen anime created by studio David Production who also animated Jojo series. It has a total of 2 seasons with 24 episodes in each. The anime started in summer 2019 and manga ran from September 2015 to February 2022. The anime is expected to have another season in near future.

Plot

The anime is set in a world where humans turn into flaming demons out of nowhere. To put these demons to rest, Fire soldiers come into action. 

Main protagonist of the series is Shinra Kusakabe who recently becomes a fire soldier in Company 8 and his main objective is to save lives. 

Characters

Main protagonist of the series, Shinra, is a good character. Unlike other typical shonen protagonists, Shinra is pretty smart. His back story is good too. 

Deuteragonist of the series is Auther Boyle who is a funny character. But he isn't that important character in the series as the series is mostly focused on the protagonist. 

Other side cast of the series is decent. Some characters like Captain Obi, Captain Burns, Captain Shinmon, Joker and Hinawa are some of the best characters of the series. 

Overall cast of the series is good but are they utilised well enough? I can't give a straight answer to this question. In season 1, all major fights were fought by Shinra alone. In season 2 we saw group efforts but most of the spotlight always remains on Shinra.

Animation

Animation in the series was a little unstable. All fight scenes were animated brilliantly but other times you will notice lazy animations. You can also easily notice the use of CGI which triggers many fans but it was noticeable only on vehicles. Overall animation quality of the series is good.

Music/soundtracks

Music is an important element in anime. Music may not be very noticeable but it could increase the impact of any scene and FireForce didn't disappoint us. Music used in the series is great although I didn't remember any particular soundtrack but I can say it was good. 

Now let's talk about openings and ending songs. First opening song of the series was a banger. It was great and the same goes for its ending song. Opening 2 of the series was also great and the ending was also good. The opening 3, 4 were decent. In short, season 1 has great songs and season 2 has decent ones.

Pacing 

Is Fire Force anime slow? No, Fire Force is an anime which remains consistent with its pacing. Especially in season 1, the series was very consistent and every episode carries a value. The only time I felt the series being slow was somewhere around episode 6-9 of season 2. That was like a mini arc which I had no interest in but that didn't last long and after just a few episodes it gets back to its original pace and remains constant till the end. 

Pacing:- 9/10 

Best things about the series

Fire Force has done great in many fields which makes it a likable series. Few of the things that I liked about the series are here- 

• Great Fight scenes.
• Likable cast.
• A unique shonen protagonist.
• Nice pacing
• Promising antagonists 

Series Downfall 

The anime has many good points but there are also some flaws that can't be ignored like- 

• MC of the series always takes the glory and most major battles were fought by him alone ignoring the rest of the cast. 
• MC has thick plot armor. He always manages to defeat his opponents despite their differences in strength, experience etc.
• The series has a lot of fan service which gets annoying many times and most female characters in the series are only for that purpose. 

Final thoughts

After rating all major aspects and listing pros and cons of the series it's now time for the conclusion. 

So, should you watch Fire Force? Yes you should if you like typical shonen protagonists. Shinra isn't a typical character but his power scaling is like that. But overall it is a good anime with a likable cast and many chances are that you will like this series.
