Plot
Anime follows Shoyo Hinata who loves vollyball more than anything and wants to become an ace despite of his short height of just 164 centimetres. In his middle school he was the only member of boy's vollyball club and his rest of the team was just some bunch of part timers due to which he easily lost his first ever official vollyball match. After completing middle school, he joined Kurasuno Highschool and their vollyball team once reached nationals but now a days they are called wingless crows. But now, new talented first years had joined the team and now they are aiming to go to nationals again but, would it be possible? Watch Haikyuu to get the answer.
In short, a new underdog team tries to reach the top. Like most sports anime, plot of Haikyuu is also very simple and it might not sound very interesting but it is. So let's continue our review.
Animation
Haikyuu is animated by Production I.G who are known for making top tier sports animes like:- Ace of diamond, Aoashi, koroko no Basketball, prince of tennis, welcome to the ballroom etc... So that means animation is not going to disappoint you for even a bit. Apart from animation, camera work during the matches are so beautiful. There are so many scenes in the anime that are perfectly created. I don't think that it lacks at animation at any point so I will give it a perfect score of 10 out of 10.
Animation:- 10/10
Characters
Characters are one of the main reasons we watch team based sports anime. If characters of an anime are amazing then that reason is enough to watch it and Haikyuu has done some really amazing work on their characters. Every character in the anime is likable and their isn't any character that you will totally hate. Team Kurasuno has total of 12 players among them 8 are fully well developed and likable characters, two (Enoshita and Tadashi) are decent and remaining two are underdeveloped and I didn't even remembered their name but that is not a big point of concern because main players make up for them. Apart from Kurasuno, other teams have great characters too. Overall anime has good characters. So I will give 8 points to characters as series has good characters but doesn't have any S+ level character.
Characters:- 8/10
Music/soundtracks
Music makes anime unforgettable. Haikyuu has total of 7 opening and ending songs and all of them are worth putting in playlist but, opening 5 was legendary and I can't forget that song.
And for soundtracks, they are good too. Although I didn't remembered any of them except Inarizaki's cheering soundtracks. They are really catchy. Overall music in the anime is good and you will definitely love it.
Music:- 8/10
Pacing
When it comes to pacing then Haikyuu is very consistent. From very first episode, Haikyuu was intresting and throughout series there wasn't any point where I felt bored. Starting few episodes of season 3 are little boring as they are mostly focused on Hinata but they aren't that bad, they are decent and there's also a chance that you won't even notice it. Overall Haikyuu has amazing pacing and you will remain entertained for whole time and hence I will give it score of 9.
Pacing:- 9/10
Best things about Haikyuu
Its time to take a look at key features of the series, things that make Haikyuu a great anime.
- Haikyuu has really amazing character development.
- Vollyball matches are very well created. From action to emotions, everything is well balanced.
- Unpredictable storyline. You can't guess winner of a match until the very end.
- The way every single player contributes in the game is so satisfying.
- You don't need any knowledge about vollyball before watching it because just by watching you will learn the whole game.
- Matches are fully realistic and all tips and tricks used in anime during matches can be applied in real life too.
- At last, Comedy.
Worst thing about Haikyuu
Haikyuu is one of those animes whom I given the title of "Perfect Anime" as there isn't anything that I hate about it but for sake of this article I will nitpick.
- Main protagonist of the series, Shoyo Hinata is a typical anime protagonist which I generally dislike.
- Many times anime just skip points and some times they even skip a whole set which some times districts me.
